It began in 1989 when Mrs. McEllen Colvin, the late Dave O. Watson, Sr., the late Earl Springs, the late Alfred C. Henry, the late H.G. Stoutermire and Pastor Claude A. Shuford went to the Montgomery Area Food Bank to apply for admission for the services provided by the Food Bank. Mount Zion’s Lay Council and Pastor Shuford were accepted to purchase one- hundred pounds weekly and to distribute to the poor and the needy. Today, five-hundred pounds is distributed every Wednesday to more than thirty families. This ministry is operated by the steward board of Mount Zion and chaired by Mr. Harold M. Stoutermire, a son of the founding member, Mr. H. G. Stoutermire.
